‘Harpooned Soul – the Jade Bell story’: Finalist, Best Film & Best Director at Documentary Edge Film FestivalMonday 21 February 2011 From the Producers of the award-winning ‘A Grandmother’s Tribe’ documentary film and campaign, comes a tragic yet inspiring story of a blind, mute, immobile Canadian man on a quest to get his life back after overdosing from a ‘speedball’ injection of heroin and cocaine. ‘Harpooned Soul – the Jade Bell story’, by New Zealand Company, BORDERLESS Productions recently celebrated its World Premiere at the Documentary Edge Festival on 22nd February 2011. The filmmakers were also honoured to be selected as finalists in the Best Film and Best Director (Dean Easterbrook) categories in the festival. Now mute, blind and disabled, Jade Bell (the central character of the film) travels to schools and prisons sharing his gritty and powerful story with kids. In a relentless quest to save lives, Jade pulls together a remarkable group of famous and local Canadian musicians to produce a music album to promote creativity over drug use. BORDERLESS has been working on this film for the past three years and will now be partnering with the Jade’s KIDS Foundation on reaching youth in North America (and around the world) with a number of anti-drug initiatives. BORDERLESS is an ideas company, committed to creating positive change in the world. Further festival screenings will be held in Auckland and Wellington throughout February and March 2011.
